Spring Love by Francis Ledwidge
I saw her coming through the flowery grass,
Round her swift ankles butterfly and bee
Blent loud and silent wings; I saw her pass
When foam-bows shivered on the sunny sea.
Then came the swallow crowding up the dawn,
and cuckoo-echoes filled the dewy South.
I left my love upon the hill, alone,
My last kiss burning on her lovely mouth.
Spring is a wonderful hopeful time of the year and we draw some inspiration from the wonderful poet Francis Ledwidge who was born in the nearby village of Slane. Check in to Tankardstown and amble around the grounds and walled gardens where new growth is taking place in the kitchen garden. Enjoy some Afternoon Tea, outdoors by the fountain, if the weather is clement. Take some time out with a visit to the nearby museum of Francis Ledwidge and learn some more about this wonderful poet and his works. Relax in the hot tub with a book of his poems and ponder awhile. Stroll to the lower courtyard for dinner in the critically acclaimed Brabazon Restaurant, dine from the Chef’s 7 Course Spring Tasting Menu of Land and Sea. Sleep soundly in one of our beautifully appointed courtyard cottage suites, with only trickling fountains and birdsong to disturb and awaken to a hearty breakfast to set you up for the day ahead.
